SPAM

When my high school friend was checking mail, out of the blue, I just thought of why would they use the term spam for unsolicited e-mail. From Dictionary.com, I got the following definitions of spam:

(1) Spam – A trademark used for a canned meat product consisting primarily of chopped pork pressed into a loaf.

(2) Spam – Unsolicited e-mail, often of a commercial nature, sent indiscriminately to multiple mailing lists, individuals, or newsgroups; junk e-mail.

Upon reading Dictionary.com, I found out that the usage of the term spam in on-line computing was inspired by the comedy routine on the British television series Monty Python’s Flying Circus, in which the word is repeated incessantly.
Me and my friend were also thinking if there is an acronym associated with the term spam with regards to on-line computing. But, I looked for it at Acronym Finder and it was nowhere to be found.
