All I want for Christmas

Christmas is the time when people became an I-want-this and I-want-that type of person and also during birthdays as well. It’s also the time of the year when people wake up really early in the morning to attend the Simbang Gabi and making it sure to complete the novena so that they could wish for something like, “I want to have a car” when in fact, your family budget constraints would make it appear as an impossible dream unless you’ve joined in a contest where they are giving away cars for buying a thousand bucks worth of goodies from the mall. In fact, I’ve seen those kind of wishes from the Wishing Tree at the Mary Help of Christians Parish. How could I forget that? We were the ones who were cutting the colorful construction paper and then making sure that the box would be replenished of bell-shaped letters and other Christmasy shapes.

Although not all of the wishes were of materialistic in nature. Some would wish for something that is cheesy sounding like, “Sana sagutin na niya ako” and some personal stuff.

Christmas is also the time of the year when we would have extravagant parties and dancing to some Christmas tunes like the Universal Motion Dancers Christmas Album. Also, this is the time of the year when we eat like pigs, gobbling food until we become so full.

This is also the time of the year when we will receive a dozen fruitcakes and Queso de Bola’s even though those were the ones that are part of our (mostly, not all) hate list. I find it weird that I don’t like fruitcake even though I’ve had the chance to drink Emperador Brandy and as we all know (I suppose) that brandy is key ingredient of fruitcakes. I don’t like Queso de Bola because I don’t like its taste even though I love cheese. I guess it’s because that my taste buds can only stand the taste of mozarella, cheddar, white cheese, blue cheese, and parmesan cheese.

In addition to that, this is the time of the year when some would engage into the carolling business, hopping from one house to another and singing the top 1 of the top 10 Christmas Carol Charts. That number one song that I’m referring to is,

“Thank you, thank you, ang babait ninyo thank you!”

And we just don’t know that what they really mean by that is the opposite, which is

“Thank you, thank you, ang babarat ninyo thank you!”

But some are not happy with the outcome of the Carolling Business considering that they are risking their lives for the possibility that may get laryngitis for singing really high notes. Thus, some would go into the Solicitation Business which brings me back to memory lane when I watched the film Crying Ladies with my friends. We would really know know if they are really soliciting for this foundation or if they’re just using it. I guess I’d be expecting more of them everytime I ride the bus going to any part of the metro.

Sigh. Christmas is indeed fast approaching, and about the wish list, I won’t be listing them here. I’d just list what I will receive after Christmas. Of course, that something would have the ooohhhh factor.
