Scary Movie 4

If you want to just laugh your heart out and get out all the stress in you, just watch Scary Movie 4. I would just like to give you a warning though that this movie has the words slapstick comedy written all over it and the word movie spoofs as well. Before you watch it, I suggest you watch first the movies War of the Worlds, The Village, The Grudge, Shutter, and Saw to fully appreciate the spoofs in this movie. Also, if you’ve seen Tom Cruise jumping over Oprah’s couch on TV, you’ll appreciate the said spoof shown. Other non-horror spoofs in this film are Brokeback Mountain, Million Dollar Baby and some celebrity targets such as Michael Jackson and George W. Bush. There are also a lot of cameos in this film. Some of which are cameos of Charlie Sheen (and made us all wonder why just a cameo role), Shaquille O’Neal, Doctor Phil and Carmen Electra.

The blank face of Anna Farris in this movie is a sure fire hit. And I’d say that she is indeed perfect for the role of Cindy Campbell. Craig Bierko, who portrays the role of Tom Ryan, has shown his talent with his parody of Tom Cruise jumping all over Oprah’s couch. However, I find the Michael Jackson scene a bit of a turn off since it is way below the belt already. And if Michael Jackson saw the film he would definitely curse the people behind it.

Spoof Quality: 3 out of 5
Slapstick comedy: 5 out of 5
Hell of a Plot: 5 out of 5
Overall Rating: 3 out of 5

Fete Moved to June 30

As previously posted, it was tentatively scheduled on the 27th of this month. However, we learned that events should almost be always scheduled on a weekend so as to be assured of a crowd. The venue is at the Music Hall of the SM Mall of Asia. And yes I agree that it is a bigger venue than last year’s Fete which were held at El Pueblo and The Podium. I’m hoping that this event will push through. Read more for the history of Fete de la Musique this year according to Noel (bigbertv5[at] Continue reading “Fete Moved to June 30”

Blog Day 2006 on August 31

I was just checking out my Flickr page and I found the blog of Tyson Williams since he added me as one of his contacts. When I was able to visit his site again, I discovered Blog Day there. Blog Day is going to be held on the 31st of August. And on that day, the pioneers of Blog Day are hoping that bloggers from different parts of the world will post a recommendation of 5 new Blogs. And as much as possible, those five blogs should have a culture different than theirs. Read more about Blog Day via this link.

The Entertainer

This video was taken at The Festival Mall at Alabang (near Teriyaki Boy) using my mobile phone. Forgive me for the quality of the video anyways. The entertainer (standing on a platform) has paint all over him making him look like a statue. Thus, at first, I thought it was a real statue until somebody put some coins inside the box. Right after that, he started dancing and doing some RoboCop dance moves. He would also interact with the audience asking anyone to shake hands with him, or ask someone to give him a high five.

He would have a very nice career in Wow Mali. Wow Mali could have different segments of the entertainer slash fake statue guy. Other than malls, you could put him somewhere in other crowded places such as FX terminals and the like.

Fete de la Musique on June 27

I thought that there is no Fete de la Musique this year. It is usually held on a Saturday, 3rd week of June. However, I have not heard of any news from the mailing lists that I belong to about the schedule, the venue and the line up as well. This year, Fete de la Musique will be held on the 27th of June at the SM Mall of Asia. Last year it was held at El Pueblo and at Podium.

The good news for new alternative bands/artists who wants exposure is that they are looking for those who would want to perform on the said event. If you would know someone who would be interested, just ask them to contact Noel Mallonga. You could reach him through his cellphone number at 09178988841. Thanks to Sigfreid Sanchez for this information from the Paramita mailing list.

Water Droplets Racing

When I was a kid, I would usually watch water drops race on the car windows especially if I do not feel like sleeping or if I do not see anything interesting to look at. I had a random thought just this afternoon, while reliving the good old days of watching the water drops race on the car window. I just thought that what if someone would make an animation short about it. Okay, let’s say that I am going to make an animation short about it. Read more for the story. Autodesk Solutions Day 2006

Autodesk Solutions Day at Manila, Philippines was recently held at Makati Shangri-La. Rizal Ballrooms A, B and C were all filled with people coming from different fields such as Civil and GIS, Manufacturing, Media and Entertainment, and Education. At the event, I saw my former blockmate in college and some of my former students who took up the Autodesk Inventor training at the Training Center. You would also notice in the picture that there are people wearing the bright yellow shirts. And yes, I am one of those wearing the yellow shirts there.

Autodesk gave away an HP laptop, an HP iPaq, an iPod, a certain Linksys product and a digital camera in their raffle draw. Of course, I am not one of the lucky winners. Hehehe! However, since I signed the feedback form, I got a cool calculator slash calendar. It’s compact and it would give you an impression that it is a high-tech face powder that slides open when you push a particular button.

Richard Gutierrez as Captain Barbell

On our way home yesterday from Tito Boy’s Despedida Party and my cousin Tintin’s birthday party, we saw a Captain Barbell teaser mounted on a certain overpass along EDSA. And upon the site of Richard Gutierrez (who plays the role of Captain Barbell) we had a discussion on how fake his abs and muscles are. It’s really exagerrated. I was even thinking that the costume itself has those macho-like contours. I think that they should have asked Mr. Gutierrez to undergo weight training.

Afterwards, we also agreed upon that Richard Gutierrez does not even fit the role of Captain Barbell. Captain Barbell is not supposed to be mestizo-looking. He’s supposed to be more Filipino-looking. Why didn’t the casting director thought about that? Oh well, maybe they’ll be making a film where Darna and Captain Barbell will meet and will have an affair so that they’ll make waves at the box office and churn more money from it with the belief that they have a lot of fans that are very much eager to see them in a movie together.

I hope that they will not turn this crazed idea into a reality. However, I am not denying the aforementioned possibility.

The IMAX experience

Me and a friend was able to watch a 45-minute film at SM Mall of Asia’s IMAX Theater. We were choosing between NASCAR 3D and Everest 2D. We agreed watching NASCAR 3D. When we went inside the theater and was able to get a preview of what IMAX is like, we were so mesmerized that we felt like we’re going to be eaten by dinosaurs. Also, we find the Happy Feet movie kinda cute and funny. Just picture this out, a penguin doing a tap dance without the background music. And it’s like in front of you. It’s as if you could touch the penguin. Then, a trailer of Deep Sea 3D was also shown. If you could recall, there used to be a cable channel dubbed as the aquarium channel and that is what Deep Sea 3D is like. The only difference is that the IMAX experience of that is way better.

NASCAR 3D is a 45-minute documentary. However, we felt that it would be better if the racing parts of the film would be able to show you what it is like to be on the driver’s seat. Or maybe, the experience of what it is like if cars were being thrown over you. In that manner, the IMAX experience would be much enjoyable and would be really worth it.
