Armed with my voter’s ID, I went out with my brother to vote at the F. Serrano Elementary School. I had a hard time looking for the room of my precinct. It was unorganized and it spelled the word chaos in my mind. I asked every poll watcher around and I found out that there’s a Manila paper posted near the entrance of the public school. The Manila paper contained information on the rooms with the following precinct numbers. Apparently, someone was blocking the precinct number of the room where I was supposed to go.

The system of election here in the Philippines is still outdated. We still have to write down each of the candidates name. I guess we will be expecting the full automation of the electoral system in 2010 according to PCIJ’s report.

RA 8436 is an Act Authorizing The Commission on Elections to use an Automated Election System in the May 11, 1998 National or Local Elections and in Subsequent National and Local Electoral Exercises and it was amended to RA 9369 (January 2007). You could read more about of the RA 9369 in this link.

Voting is not just a right
Going out and voting is not just a right. In fact, it is a social responsibility. It is something that we should all do. It is like doing something for the good of our country in spite of the fact that others may cheat. It is nice to see familiar faces from the neighborhood there practicing their right and their responsibility to vote.

Keeping my choice of candidates confidential
I’m keeping my choice of candidates confidential. However, I can assure you that I did not vote for Victor Wood. :D

    Rak on.

    same vein here. I did not vote for victor wood and…. Richard Gomez haha!. I forgot my cam yesterday and wasn’t able to document our version of “chaos” here in our place, so I decided to make a video instead which ridiculed the election. I hope politicians could view it on my blog ng makita nila ang sarili nila kung gano sila nakakatawa.

    Thank you for voting. It’s very responsible of you, and I hope your readers followed suit..

    yes, nick, voting is important. but sometimes it is just not so easy to know who to vote for. take france for example. today their new president took over charges. he’s a conservative. in europe everybody’s talking about fresh political air and change. and then they vote for a guy who sends police forces downtown to the slums to reestablish the false “peace”. i guess a great option is creating your own voice…

    @bluepanjeet,
    did you upload it in youtube :D
    you should :D

    @Nick,
    thanks too :D

    @rafa,
    you have a point there.. in fact, i did not fill in all the slots for the senator positions. And I was disappointed when I heard in the news that there were incidents of cheating (in the counting) reported.

    @Rafa,

    I’ve been following those cases too. It is definitely a contradiction, but democracy is never perfect and will never please everyone.

    The point however, is that the will of the people is exacted and reflect the results.

    @Karla,
    the cheating machinery is still in place, and in the time when the opposition watchers are fatigued, we may see an increase in the cheating..

    It’s not so much as to which candidates win, but that the overall election is fair and honest and will reflect our will.

    @Nick,
    Yes. I believe it is still in place. I hope one day, we could have an honest election..
